Why Don't We Do It In The Road (2009 Stereo Remaster)

The Beatles

Playboy: “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?”

Lennon: That’s Paul. He even recorded it by himself in another room. That’s how it was getting in those days. We came in and he’d made the whole record. Him drumming. Him playing the piano. Him singing. But he couldn’t—he couldn’t—maybe he couldn’t make the break from the Beatles. I don’t know what it was, you know. I enjoyed the track. Still, I can’t speak for George, but I was always hurt when Paul would knock something off without involving us. But that’s just the way it was then.

Somehow, as serious as the interview here, the album cover here makes me snigger

"The Beatles, unable to feel free, surrounded as they were by strangers, playing cards, nothing cool or sophisticated, just a jolly family game. Good. They were managing to stay in the kitchen. I’ve got to say this. Even in private I knew they hadn’t become hard bitten, because if they were stuck together far away from home, the most daring thing they got up to was a wanking game. There they’d lie in the darkness like schoolboys in a dormitory, and the first to put the others off from coming was the winner. They’d all start and then John would say "Madame de Gaulle", and if the others didn’t fall off bed laughing he’d try "Richard Milhouse Nixon". With John’s permission that ended up as a sketch in Ken Tynan’s show "Oh Calcutta". It was me who told Tynan". - Victor Spinetti

Paul McCartney: Seems like old times (demo) with John Lennon clips mixed in

Friendly McLennon reminder: Paul has a song with the lyric “familiar music man, singing me a song from another lifetime.”
